Provisional Utility Patent Applications - allows "patent pending" status on your invention and a quick way to reserve the filing date. A provisional patent application only requires a written description and drawings as necessary (no claims are required). A non-provisional patent must then be filed within one year to keep the filing date from the provisional patent application.

Non-Provisional Utility Patent Applications - A complete application that contains all the necessary components for a utility patent.
